Wu Kau Tang

🏞 【Wu Kau Tang】(historically known as Wu Kau Tin or Wu Kwai Tin) is located in the North District of the northeastern New Territories, Hong Kong, sitting adjacent to Country Park. Although 【Wu Kau Tang】itself falls outside the formal boundaries of the country park, its lowland forests serve as a major sanctuary for native species, sheltering 164 tree species, over 30 dragonfly species, over 50 butterfly species, and a rich array of large invertebrates. 【Wu Kau Tang】is also a highly popular trailhead and terminus for numerous hiking routes across the northeastern New Territories. Notably, it was the site proposed by then-Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa in 1998 for the development of the “Chinese Medicine Port” initiative.—

🏘 Villages, History & Culture

  • Settled during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty by the Li clan, who migrated from Wuhua, Guangdong.
  • The Wong clan subsequently migrated from Songyuan in Meixian, settling in Wu Kau Tang in 1703.
  • Village Composition: Encompasses San Uk Tsuen, , Leng Pui, Lo Wai, Tin Sam, Ho Pui, and Sam Ka Tsuen.
  • Hakka Lineage: The Li and Wong clans migrated from Guangdong during the Qing Kangxi era, building local villages and ancestral halls.
  • Historical Landmark: The Bride’s Pool Martyrs Memorial (WWI Anti-Japanese War Heroes Monument) honors the bravery and sacrifices of local villagers during the war of resistance.
