Sham Chung Pier

🛳️ 【Sham Chung Pier (深涌 碼頭)】is the main transport hub connecting the remote Village to the rest of Hong Kong. Situated along the rugged shores of the Peninsula, this simple concrete public pier carries decades of local history. In the early days, it was a lifeline for villagers traveling between Ma Liu Shui and other coastal settlements. Today, it remains the ultimate gateway for hikers and city-slickers looking to escape into this coastal paradise. The daily kaito ferry from Ma Liu Shui takes about 45 minutes to get here. When the tide rolls out, the surrounding mudflats come alive, turning into a playground for mudskippers and fiddler crabs. Don’t forget to snap a photo with the iconic “Sham Chung” stone monument standing proudly at the end of the pier! — More than just a transport stop, 【Sham Chung Pier】is the perfect jumping-off point for eco-tourism. A quick 5-minute stroll from the pier brings you straight to the famous Sham Chung Grassland, taking you past the ruins of the abandoned Sham Chung School and a historic Catholic chapel—perfect for anyone who loves that hauntingly beautiful, rustic village aesthetic. Right by the pier, local village kiosks offer simple refreshments and even kayak rentals, letting you paddle out and explore the stunning local waters. Since it’s pretty remote and ferries are few and far between (only 2 to 3 trips on weekdays), you’ll definitely want to plan your day carefully. But honestly, that’s exactly why this place has managed to keep its incredibly peaceful, old-school fishing village charm, making it the ultimate spot to unplug from the city noise. —
