昂坪廣場

⛩️ 【Ngong Ping Piazza (昂坪廣場)】 is nestled on the Ngong Ping plateau of Lantau Island. Spanning around 1.5 hectares, it was officially opened in 2010. The piazza seamlessly links Ngong Ping Village, the Tian Tan Buddha, Po Lin Monastery, and the Wisdom Path. Its architectural blueprint beautifully blends traditional Chinese Buddhist culture with Jiangnan-style garden designs, making it the ultimate transport and walking hub connecting all the top landmarks in Ngong Ping, as well as the perfect starting point for visitors to soak in the spiritual vibe and natural beauty of Lantau.

🗺️ Geographical Features & Vibe

  • High-Altitude Plateau Hub: Perched on the 【Ngong Ping Plateau】 at about 450 meters above sea level, the piazza is closely hugged by 【Lantau Peak】 and 【Nei Lak Shan】. It enjoys a cool, refreshing mountain breeze all year round. When the mist rolls in, the entire piazza is draped in a dreamy, poetic fog.
  • Core Cultural Axis: The layout of the piazza cleverly creates two major visual and walking lifelines. One naturally guides visitors towards the epic stone steps of the 【Tian Tan Buddha】, while the other leads straight to the Main Shrine Hall of 【Po Lin Monastery】, flawlessly locking religion, history, and space together.

Key Spots Highlights & What to Look For
1. New Pai Lau
Standing tall at the entrance of the piazza, this massive stone gateway is 14 meters high and 19 meters wide. Built in the grand Northern style of the Qing Dynasty, its architectural flair perfectly matches the majestic look of the Po Lin Monastery complex.
2. Bodhi Path
A wide, 120-meter walkway lined with lush Bodhi trees on both sides. It features a neat lineup of statues of the 「Twelve Divine Generals」. Regarded as the protective deities in Buddhism, they each represent one of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs. Visitors love checking them out to find and take photos with their own zodiac guardian.
3. Di Tan
A circular open space located at the end of the Bodhi Path, right at the base of the Big Buddha’s steps. The central design of the Di Tan echoes the base of the Buddha statue, surrounded by four lotus-shaped stone carvings. This is the main staging ground for hosting major Buddhist rituals, grand ceremonies, and cultural performances.
4. Chinese Landscaped Garden
A classic Jiangnan-style garden wrapping around the piazza, complete with traditional pavilions, quaint little bridges, flowing water, and elegant green structures. It blends effortlessly into Lantau’s natural mountain backdrop and spiritual atmosphere, making it a hotspot for capturing gorgeous, old-school photos.
