【Kai Kung Leng (雞公嶺)】, located north of Yuen Long (元朗), Kam Tin (錦田), and Pat Heung (八鄉), is a scenic hiking route featuring two main peaks: Tai Lo Tin (大羅天) and Lo Tin Teng (羅天頂). The trail offers wide-open panoramic views, allowing you to soak in the full scenery of the Yuen Long, Kam Tin, and Shek Kong (石崗) areas.

Route Overview

Yuen Long MTR Station → Kam Tin River → Fung Kat Heung → Kai Kung Leng → Lo Tin Teng → Lung Tam Shan → Kiu Tau

【Starting Point】 Starting from 【Yuen Long MTR Station (元朗西鐵站)】, head along the main road towards 【Pok Oi Hospital (博愛醫院)】. Pass through the 【Yuen Long Bypass Floodway (元朗排洪繞道)】 until you reach the 【Nam Sang Wai (南生圍)】 junction, then follow 【Nam Sang Wai Road (南生圍路)】 across the 【Kam Tin River (錦田河)】 towards 【Fung Kat Heung (逢吉鄉)】. Just a few meters past the 【Fung Kat Heung Minibus Terminus (逢吉鄉小巴總站)】, you’ll find the entrance to the hiking trail.

【End Point】 Head out from 【Kai Kung Leng (雞公嶺)】 towards 【Fanling (粉嶺)】, passing through the highest peak at 【Lo Tin Teng (羅天頂)】. After reaching 【Lung Tam Shan (龍潭山)】, you can start heading down the mountain path until you reach 【Fan Kam Road (粉錦公路)】 at ground level to wrap up the hike.

Start: Depart from 【MTR Yuen Long Station (港鐵元朗站)】 Exit G2. Turn right and follow the pavement along 【Long Wo Road (朗和路)】 towards 【Pok Oi Hospital (博愛醫院)】, then shortly after, turn left into 【Ho Chau Road (蠔洲路)】.

2. 📍 Nam Sang Wai Road

Walk straight along 【Nam Sang Wai Road (南生圍路)】. After crossing the footbridge, turn left onto 【Castle Peak Road • Tam Mi (青山公路 • 潭美段)】.

3. 📍 Kam Tin River

Keep going straight on 【Nam Sang Wai Road (南生圍路)】. You will soon reach 【Hung Mao Kiu (紅毛橋)】. Cross the footbridge, turn left, and continue along 【Castle Peak Road • Tam Mi (青山公路 • 潭美段)】.
📷 Tips: You can take a slow stroll or stop on the bridge to admire the 【Kam Tin River】 and the local birdlife.

4. 📍 Fung Kat Heung

After crossing the footbridge, turn left along 【Castle Peak Road • Tam Mi (青山公路 • 潭美段)】. Turn right at the traffic lights—【Park YOHO (Park YOHO)】 will be right across from you. Cross the road, turn left, and head straight along 【San Tam Road (新潭路)】 towards 【Fung Kat Heung (逢吉鄉)】.

Walk along 【San Tam Road (新潭路)】 until the 4th junction. You will see a 【Fung Kat Heung Road Sign (逢吉鄉路牌)】 standing on the ground; turn right there to enter.

5. 📍 Nam Sang Wai Road

At the fork with the 【Miu Kok Temple Sign (妙覺寺路牌)】, take the left path and head straight up towards the trail entrance near the Minibus 603 Terminus.

Once you reach the minibus stop, the trail entrance is on the left side of the road.

6. 📍 Kai Tsui Ha (雞嘴下)

Follow the incline and head up the steps. You will spot a “lone tree” standing midway up the hillside. The ground here is flat with plenty of space—it’s a great spot to sit under the shade, especially during summer.
📷 Tips: From here, you can enjoy the views of the fish ponds and plains across 【Nam Sang Wai (南生圍)】 and 【Tai Sang Wai (大生圍)】, as well as the distant 【Mai Po Wetlands (米埔濕地)】 and 【Deep Bay / Shenzhen Bay (後海灣/深圳灣)】.

11. 📍 Kei Hang Shan Summit

After passing the rocks, continue upward to reach 【Kei Hang Shan Summit (企坑山頂)】. The photo shows the view looking back towards 【Fairview Park (錦綉花園)】 in Yuen Long.

12. 📍 Kwai Kok Shek Leng

This massive boulder serves as a key landmark for 【Kai Kung Leng (雞公嶺)】. The main star of the route, the summit itself, is just a short distance ahead.

13. 📍 Kai Kung Leng (雞公嶺)

This trigonometric station marks our main objective, 【Kai Kung Leng (雞公嶺)】. Looking to the left of the trail, you can see 【Tam Mei (潭尾)】, 【Mai Po (米埔)】, and 【Shek Wu Wai (石湖圍)】 nearby, with 【Lok Ma Chau (落馬洲)】 in the distance.

14. 📍 Lo Tin Teng

Off-road Motorbike Hotspot

A unique feature of this ridge is that it’s a famous spot for off-road motorcycling; you’ll often run into riders tackling the hills here.

15. 📍 Lung Tam Shan (龍潭山)

After conquering the highest peak at 【Lo Tin Teng (羅天頂)】, follow the path past 【Lung Tam Shan (龍潭山)】and begin the easy descent down the slope.

16. 📍 Finish: Kiu Tau

Kiu Tau(橋頭) – Fan Kam Road(粉錦公路)

The hike ends at 【Kiu Tau (橋頭)】. You can take Minibus 77 back to 【Yuen Long (元朗)】, or head in the opposite direction towards 【Sheung Shui (上水)】.
