Situated on the eastern side of Lai Chi Wo Village, this mudflat lies in the intertidal zone and is frequently submerged by tides, which keeps the soil soft and loose. However, because it remains drier than the nearshore mud during low tide, only a select few plant species, such as the heritiera mangrove, can thrive here. The heritiera mangrove is exceptionally rare in Hong Kong; relying on its distinctive buttress roots, it has become the dominant plant of this mudflat, with the tallest tree reaching 11 meters. Alongside these trees, the white-flower derris weaves through the forest like giant pythons, with an estimated growth history spanning well over a century.
