Yung Shue Au, Border Garrison – Former Barracks | 01

Echoes of Border Patrols: Situated at the bottleneck where Hoi opens into Mirs Bay, was a highly strategic border outpost in Hong Kong’s military history. During the 1970s and 1980s, the British Forces in Hong Kong deployed the 《Highlanders》 and 《Gurkha Soldiers》 here to secure the border. They pulled daily shifts patrolling the ridges and river ponds, keeping a close eye out for illegal immigrants. As the influx of refugees dwindled in the early 1980s, the troops gradually pulled out, and the outpost was officially closed down in 1985. Today, has returned to a quiet calm, though weathered military crests can still be spotted on the rock faces, and the mountain trails still carry the footprints of old military marches—a lasting testament to the evolution of Hong Kong’s defense system.
