Yung Shue Au, Pui Man School

The school years of . Education has always been a cornerstone of Hakka communities. In the early days, had a private village school (*sishu*) taught by Hakka-speaking teachers, with Mr. Lau serving as the final teacher into the 1950s. In 1958, the government stepped in with funding to set up Pui Man School, replacing the old village school. On top of a single classroom, the early school grounds featured swings, a slide, and a basketball court. The school adopted the official curriculum, switching from Hakka to Cantonese as the medium of instruction to teach subjects like formal letter writing, nature, and agriculture. As villagers emigrated one after another in the 1970s, 《Pui Man School》 shut down due to a lack of students, and the school building was later repurposed into barracks for the British Army.
