The construction of Plover Cove Reservoir began in 1960 and was completed in 1968. Its main dam spans approximately 2.1 km, complemented by two subsidiary dams each 200 meters long. With a storage capacity of 230 million cubic meters, it serves as one of Hong Kong’s vital water sources. During Dongjiang water supply maintenance or severe droughts, the reservoir’s storage is critical to sustaining the daily lives of Hong Kong residents. Furthermore, the area surrounding the reservoir is part of the UNESCO Global Geopark, holding immense natural and cultural value protected by law. It is not only a major water source but also a popular destination for hiking and leisure, offering visitors plenty of opportunities to connect with nature and enjoy outdoor activities along its surrounding trails.
