The castor oil plant (Ricinus communis L.) is a member of the spurge family (Euphorbiaceae) commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions. It holds high industrial and medicinal value because castor oil can be extracted from its seeds; however, the seeds themselves contain highly toxic compounds and are strictly non-edible.
