Visitor Info Board: Afforestation for Disaster Prevention

Lai Chi Wo sits close to the shore, and in the past, whenever typhoons whipped up massive waves, seawater would crash into the farmlands, causing devastating losses. Legend has it that the ancestors of purchased coastal-tolerant plants—such as the heritiera mangrove and white-flower derris—from neighboring villages to plant along the shoreline. Over time, these grew into a dense coastal forest, acting as a natural shield protecting Village from destructive winds and storm surges.
