Lai Chi Wo Village, East Gate – Hakka Enclosure Wall

《Classic Hakka Enclosure Wall and Defensive Design》: utilizes a classic “walled village” layout where the entire settlement is encircled by tall defensive walls, offering only a few designated entry points (such as the East and West Gates). This specific configuration was engineered to fend off pirates or wild beasts in the old days and ensure safety within. The tops of the walls are capped with traditional grey clay tiles (small blue tiles) typical of southern Chinese Lingnan architecture, neatly arranged in channels to ensure efficient rainwater drainage.
