So Lo Pun Village, Spring Couplets on the Wall | 01

Stepping into Village, we came across a crumbling blue-brick wall at the site of an abandoned house. Even though the house has collapsed and the roof is long gone, indigenous villagers or their descendants often make a special trip back to their ancestral homes during the Lunar New Year to paste fresh couplets on the ruined walls. This symbolizes a deep respect for their ancestors and a lasting connection to their family roots. The New Year couplets also express the villagers’ best wishes for the year ahead, meaning “thousands of households are filled with laughter, and the five seas and four lakes celebrate the New Year together.”
