The Silent Sentinels of Military Memory: Situated at the bottleneck where Sha Tau Kok Hoi opens into Mirs Bay, Yung Shue Au was once a highly strategic border outpost in Hong Kong’s military history. In the 1970s and 80s, the 1st Battalion of the Queen’s Own 《Highlanders》 (Seaforth and Camerons) of the British Forces in Hong Kong was stationed here to patrol the border and maintain security. Back then, the regiment painted a military crest on the rock face next to the pier. Standing over six feet tall, the crest depicts the 《Queen’s Crown》, the 《Scottish Thistle》, a stag representing the Highlanders, and the Gaelic motto “Cuidich ‘n Righ” (meaning “Aid the King”), all set against a map of Scotland and the 《St. Andrew’s Cross》 flag. This emblem captures the history of the British troops stationed here. Today, the stag’s head can still be faintly seen, serving as a lasting footprint of past border military operations.
