Lai Chi Wo is a Hakka village with a history spanning nearly 400 years. During the 1950s and 1960s, it was home to over a thousand villagers who primarily lived on farming and fishing. As residents moved away to seek a living, the population gradually dwindled. However, the villagers held a deep affection for their homeland and always hoped to return. To commemorate this sentiment, they pooled money to build this Paifang gate. The couplets perfectly capture their lifelong journey from leaving home in their youth to returning in their twilight years.
