Visitor Info Board: Yung Shue Au – Nature and Cultural Trail

Yung Shue Au is located in the northeast of , bounded by and to the south, and looking out towards Yantian Port in Shenzhen to the north. Originally named “” or “Nung Shue O”, the village was built along the landscape by the 《Wan Clan》 during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1661-1722). Once the Coastal Clearance Order was lifted, 《Wan Ka-kei》 led his clansmen here from Tam Shui Hang. His son, Wan Man-mou, built houses and settled down, gradually forming the village. The village once boomed with a population of over 300 and left behind a wealth of military relics, including old barracks. After World War II, alongside rapid urban development and social changes, residents gradually moved away, and by the early 1990s, there were no permanent residents left. In recent years, returning villagers have teamed up with the School of Architecture at 《The Chinese University of Hong Kong》 (CUHK) and other partners to breathe new life into this historic site. Today, ‘s old farming and military landscapes are being slowly reimagined as a vibrant space for cultural co-creation and placemaking.
