Red Rock Landform Viewing Area

The purplish-red rock found here is actually siltstone, a type of sedimentary rock. Over 100 million years ago, this area was a vast river delta; thick layers of fine sand and mud accumulated underwater, and after millions of years of geological processes, they compacted and cemented into solid rock strata. Through ages of environmental change, the ancient estuary delta has long disappeared, leaving these purplish-red rocks exposed on the surface, beautifully accentuating the stunning coastline at the Red Rock Landform Viewing Area.
