When 《Kai Choy School》 was first founded, piracy was rampant, so the upper floor was fitted with “gun loops” and escape routes to defend Kuk Po. The school was also used as a public hall for discussing village matters. In recent years, organizations under the 《Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme》 restored and revitalized the school’s annex buildings into a visitor and community center. This provides a shared space for rural conservation activities, keeping its educational mission alive. 《Kai Choy School》 used to provide primary education to kids from Kuk Po, Fung Hang, and Ah Ma Wat. In the early days, lessons were taught in Hakka, weaving local village knowledge into the curriculum. Later, it switched to Cantonese and adopted the local syllabus to help students keep up with social and economic changes.
