Standing on Mount Davis Road, we enjoyed a commanding high-angle view of Smithfield below our feet and the bustling cluster of urban buildings ahead. Smithfield is a road located in the Central and Western District of Hong Kong Island, connecting Pok Fu Lam Road and New Praya, Kennedy Town with a total length of about 1.3 kilometres. Its name is derived from an ancient market and meat wholesale centre in London, as Hong Kong’s Smithfield was also historically home to cattle sheds and a slaughterhouse. Today, Smithfield has transformed into a bustling urban area filled with facilities such as a municipal services building, a public library, a sports centre, and residential developments.
