Visitor Info Board: Beliefs – Tai Wong Pak Kung (Earth God)

At the entrance of stands the shrine dedicated to 《Tai Wong Pak Kung》, watching over the peace of the village. Directly facing the shrine is an old, intricately tangled banyan tree. Its deeply set roots and lush canopy symbolize the village and mark the boundary between the public and the sacred. The villagers hold a simple, earnest faith, mainly worshipping 《Tai Wong Pak Kung》 and 《Ho Lik Pak Kung》 (the river deity). Every Lunar New Year, they honor the gods with a Qilin dance. Vibrant and set to a rhythmic melody, this ritual serves as both a sacred offering and a way to bind the community together. Today, even as the village is mostly empty, the shrine and old banyan stand quietly as a keeper of community memories, embodying the deep respect Hakka villages hold for nature and ancestral spirits.
