Kai Kung Leng is a prominent peak rising 585 meters in the northwestern New Territories, standing right between Yuen Long New Town and the Fanling/Sheung Shui New Town. It was historically named Kwai Kok Shan (圭角山) or Gua Jiao Shan (掛角山). According to the Comprehensive Gazetteer of the Qing Dynasty: “Gua Jiao Shan sits thirty li south of the county; its twin peaks pierce the sky like horns, known as Big Gua and Little Gua, also called Ngau Tam Shan.” Meanwhile, the Xin’an County Gazetteer records: “Gua Jiao Shan, also named Kwai Kok, lies forty li southeast of the county. The mountain is rich with ancient cinnamon trees, and its twin peaks stand face-to-face like horns, hence the name.”
