The Central Green Trail is a hiking trail located on the northern slope of Mid-Levels on Hong Kong Island. Jointly planned and developed by the Central and Western District Council and The Conservancy Association, it was opened to the public in 2009. Spanning a total length of about 1.8 kilometres, the Central Green Trail starts from Admiralty and ascends via Chatham Path and Tramway Path to Barker Road at The Peak. The trail is divided into 14 stations featuring interpretive panels along the way that introduce nearby landmarks and relevant history, allowing walkers to not only appreciate the natural beauty of Hong Kong but also learn about its historical culture and architectural styles. Weeping Fig: This is a weeping fig tree with a broad canopy located right in front of the Old Victoria Hospital – Maternity Block, marking the end point of the Central Green Trail. This tree boasts a history of over a century, making it one of the oldest weeping fig trees in Hong Kong. The Old Victoria Hospital – Maternity Block is a historical building located at The Peak on Hong Kong Island. Formerly known as the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, its foundation stone was laid in 1897 by the then Governor of Hong Kong, Sir William Robinson, to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria’s reign. The hospital ceased operations in 1947; the main block was subsequently demolished and redeveloped as the Chief Secretary for Administration’s Official Residence, while the maternity wing was converted into government quarters and renamed Victoria Flats. The maternity wing, added in 1921, was designed by Palmer and Turner. The maternity block is a three-story Neo-Classical building featuring red brick and imitation stone external walls, arched colonnades on the ground floor, Venetian-style windows on the second and third floors, and an arched stone carving at its centre. It is currently listed as a Grade III Historic Building in Hong Kong.
