Walking about 16.6 kilometres from the starting point at 🚉MTR Kennedy Town Station , we finally arrived at the Tai Tam Reservoir – Main Dam. The Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir – Main Dam is a dam located within Tai Tam Country Park in the southeastern part of Hong Kong Island, forming a key part of the Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir. It was constructed of concrete using granite blocks as aggregate, finished with a granite ashlar facing, standing 60 feet high and stretching about 800 feet long (18.3 metres high and 243.8 metres long) with a storage capacity of 1.42 billion gallons (6.45 million cubic metres). Its construction began in 1912 and was completed in 1917, spanning five years. At the time, this dam featured an epoch-making design and was hailed as the “First Dam in Asia.” Built over the dam spillway are 12 arches supported by half-round granite pillars, which carry Tai Tam Road—the road linking Stanley and Tai Tam with Chai Wan and Shek O. A valve house and an outlet are located on the western side of the dam. The dam was designed and its construction supervised by Chief Engineer Daniel Jaffe. Following the completion of the reservoir, the original Tai Tam Tuk Village at the bottom of the valley was submerged.
