《Sung’s House and Garden》 is a traditional Hakka village house with over a century of history, located in Lo Wai—the earliest settled community in Kuk Po. This property was once home to the 《Sung Clan》, reflecting the architectural wisdom and lifestyle of early Hakka people in remote rural areas. “Tree House—Conserving the Building’s Texture” explains the core concept of this revitalization project. 《Texture》: Refers to the building’s original materials, like green bricks, red bricks, stone blocks, mud, and the marks left by time. 《Coexistence with Nature》: After the villagers moved out, this old house was abandoned for a long time, and its walls were completely taken over by banyan tree roots, creating an amazing “tree-and-wall-as-one” spectacle. The conservation project doesn’t plan to make the old house look brand new; instead, it chooses to keep these roots, broken walls, and their interaction with nature, turning it into a “ruined garden.”
