Reaching the end of Mount Davis Path brings you out onto Mount Davis Road, where the large tree standing before your eyes is known as the “Weeping Fig”. The “Weeping Fig” (scientific name: Ficus benjamina), also colloquially known as the white fig, is a plant belonging to the genus Ficus under the family Moraceae. Native to regions spanning Southern China, Thailand, India, and Malaysia, it typically grows in humid mixed forests at elevations of 500 to 800 metres. In Hong Kong, the Weeping Fig is a common roadside tree that provides ample shade for pedestrians. Its flowering season runs from September to November, followed by a fruiting period from August to November.
