The Ung Kong Group boasts acidic volcanic rock columns that are rare worldwide. The Ung Kong Group Scenic Area consists of Basalt Island, Bluff Island, Wang Chau, and Kam Chung Ngam (Goldfish Rock) on Tiu Chung Island. These scenic areas feature diverse coastal geomorphology, with sea cliffs, numerous sea arches, sea caves, and sea stacks scattered along the coast. The steep cliffs on the southeastern coast of Bluff Island are the highest sea cliffs in Hong Kong, reaching a height of 140 metres. The 45-metre-high Lan Tau Cave on Basalt Island, the 30-metre-high sea arch on Wang Chau, the 24-metre-high Sha Tong Hau Cave on Bluff Island, and the Tiu Chung Arch on Tiu Chung Island are collectively known as the four grand sea arches of Hong Kong. As the Ung Kong Group is located within the core protection area and features strong winds, rough waves, and treacherous terrain, it is only suitable for nearshore boat tours during the calm summer season.
