Breakwater Dolosse 《V》

High Island Reservoir – East Dam features a unique double-structure design, with a breakwater constructed from over 7,000 interlocking dolosse added on the seaward side to protect the main dam from wave erosion. These dolosse were originally invented by engineers in South Africa and have a history of over 70 years; their shape and structure can effectively break up waves and absorb their impact energy, making them widely used for seawalls, typhoon shelters, reclamation projects, and artificial reefs. The dolosse used for the main dam are double-T shaped structures made of reinforced concrete, each weighing up to 25 tonnes. The buffer zone between the breakwater and the main dam further minimizes the impact of massive waves on the main dam.
